Parkland with Dark Time & Lisa Anderson

  • The Palomino 109 7 Avenue Southwest Calgary, AB, T2P 0W5 Canada (map)

Parkland is a music project based around the writing and recordings of Rob Malowany. Primarily a singer/songwriter, immersion in the Vancouver creative music scene inspired Malowany to mix improv and textural exploration into his song structures. In a live setting Parkland exists in many forms, from voice with guitar and piano, to an exploratory full-spectrum band with drums, dobro, cello, piano, and bass, together with an array of noise soundscapes and unique textures.

The group’s lineup is an ever-shifting mix of members of the Vancouver creative, experimental, and roots communities. The current touring line up includes:

Stephen Lyons – drums, noise (Fond of Tigers/Sun Belt)

Robin James Hunter – slide guitar, lap steel

Shanto Acharia – bass (Fond of Tigers/Limbs of the Stars)

Jon Wood - electric guitar (Flophouse Jr., Cam Penner)

Rob Malowany – voice, electric guitar.

Dark Time

Dark Time is the artistic material Cayley O'Neill uproots from her dreams and nightmares. O’Neill’s music explores themes of love, addiction, mental illness and death with unnerving honesty and a sense of twisted humour. In 2016, O’Neill joined forces with keyboardist Eric Heitmann (Speed Strips/Holgans/Purple Ryan) and guitarist Claudia Maria (The Sweets) to form Dark Time. They have recorded their single “Can you see?” at Public Lunch Studios with Kevin Sullivan and plan to release an EP by 2018.

Lisa Anderson

Lisa Anderson’s silly, fierce, perky, and passionate indie-pop reflects the struggles and joys of embracing all life has to offer – the dark, the blissful, and the grey in between. Her pragmatic optimism and quirky humour weave through her lyrics to form moments of kinship with her listeners. In performance, Lisa accompanies her vocals with a keyboard, ukulele, and looper pedal, creating unique soundscapes that match her distinct view of the world. -
